Food Scene
Its right in the neighborhood, an easy 6 minute walk, or 1 minute drive, this place has coffee, espresso drinks, baked goods and sandwiches. More of a grab and good spot, you can certainly get breakfast and lunch here. Can be busy on football weekend mornings, but the setting is lovely.

Its a wonderful colonial era building, with great pub style food, as well as fine dining (be sure you tell the hostess which you want, though steaks and entrees are available on the regular, pub menu, and all food is available in the bar). The bar stays open fairly late, but food is seldom served past 9 pm, so, plan accordingly. Right on the "Diamond" in Boalsburg.

This classic surf n turf spot LOOKS like a tourist trap, with the big cow on top, but its actually a favorite of locals. The menu is upscale casual, and the service is great. Menu includes sandwiches and burgers all the way to steak and seafood entrees, with solid wine, beer and cocktail menus. Can be busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, so plan accordingly.

This Pizza shop is a classic hero and pie shop. There are a handful of tables for dining in, but its best to call ahead and grab a pie, salad or sandwich to go. Call ahead, and pickup. Located just past Kelly's on Boal Ave, so about 3 minute drive from house.

This is a great late night option (late night being past 9 pm, for anyone attending a sporting event at PSU). It is MUCH more than a pizzeria. The menu is expansive, and the service is great. Also a brewery, and their beers are quite good. Food served until 1 AM, generally, and lots of screens for watching sports. Large outdoor dining area for warmer months, and plenty of parking.

This is one of those Mongolian places where you put the uncooked ingredients you want on a plate (noodles, or rice, meat or vegetables), with the sauces you want, and someone grills it up...so, a great, fast way to feed lots of people what they want, quickly and cheaply. Great option anytime, but especially on crowded weekends in the area, as the service is fast.

Drinks & Nightlife
This place is divey, and smoking is allowed. The drinks are cheap, and there is a nice shuffleboard, however. If you are in search of a cheap, no frills place to knock back a few, this is it. Open late, and with a lively crowd, this bar frequently has music with a small cover ($2 or $3 bucks), so check ahead. An easy 10 minute walk from the house, or a 2 minute Uber/Lyft Drive.

Hikes available here, but this spot is most well known for being the closest State Park with a swimming area to State College. Can't go wrong by spending a warm afternoon at this local hang out...and if you are lucky, the Old Oak Tavern will be open on your way home (don't try to look up the Old Oak or their hours online...just stop in if the "open" sign is on, and enjoy it while it lasts).
