Turtles are in April; don't touch or harass them. If you "must" bring a light, make it a flashlight with red cellophane over the lens. No flash photography
Every month right before the new moon, the turtles arrive to lay their eggs on the beach. The rest of the month it is a beautiful volcanic sand beach where you can swim, see the sunset and enjoy some of the best waves in the area for a good surf
Playa Ostional is about a 20 minute drive south from the villa. Playa Ostional has some of the smoothest, most consistent waves in the immediate area. Averaging about head-high, with periodic swells bringing the expectant larger waves. It also offers unbelievable sunsets for those looking for romantic sunset walks on the beach. The area has been designated a natural refuge for one of the world‘s most important nesting sites for the olive ridley sea turtle. A significant proportion of the world‘s Pacific ridley turtle population nests at Playa Ostional, thousands coming on shore for up to one week at a time from July–December (peak season is August and September, starting with the last quarter of the full moon), and solely or in small groups at other times during the year.
