Designed by an Italian Architect, the theatre is a beautiful example of This Architects vision of Costa Rica. Very different than what you would expect. A gorgeous building with beautiful architecture with much Italian influence. Only accessible by tour. Check FB for times and to make reservations. English tours avail. If you are lucky enough, you may get to see a performance of some type. During the theatre season 30 minute performances are given during the lunch hour. Allows locals to enjoy and experience culture during their lunch hour. Usually 2000 colones admission fee. About $3.50 There is a lovely restaurant inside that has a great menu for lunch and/or coffee.

The Teatro Nacional is a landmark in San José. It was built in the early 20th. century, following French architecture and financed voluntarily by the coffee growers. They have a nice program with the Costa Rica symphony orchestra, including Sunday morning concerts.
