Change the dates of your reservation

If you need to change the dates of a confirmed reservation, you can submit a trip change request to your Host. Once you send the request, your Host will receive a notification to approve or decline your request.

  1. Click Trips and click the trip you want to change
  2. Under Reservation details, click Change reservation
  3. Change the dates of your stay and click Save
  4. Review your changes and then click Send request


How the cost of your reservation may be affected

Depending on your Host’s pricing, changing the dates of your reservation may affect the total cost of your trip. The original total and the new total will be shown before you submit your trip change request. If the cost of your trip changes, you’ll be charged or refunded, if necessary.

If the cost of your trip increases, in most cases, the additional cost will be charged to your original payment method as soon as the Host accepts your trip change request. For some payment methods, guests will need to submit the additional payment within 48 hours of the Host accepting the trip change request.

If the cost of the trip decreases, you’ll be refunded to the payment method you used when you booked the reservation. Find out when you’ll get your refund.

How weekly or monthly discounts may be affected by a trip change request

Changing the length of a reservation may affect if you're still eligible for a weekly or monthly discounted rate. The original total and the new total will be shown before you submit your trip change request.

How pre-approvals may be affected by a trip change request

If you booked using a pre-approval that your Host sent, any change to the reservation means that the price of the reservation will be recalculated as if it were a new booking.

Your Host may be willing to offer you the same price as your original booking. Just message them to ask. If they agree, they can send you a trip change request with a new price.

How tax calculations may be affected by a trip change request

When a trip change request is accepted, the taxes for a reservation are always recalculated to apply the most recent and accurate tax requirements for the listing location.

If your Host hasn’t responded to your trip change request

If you submitted a trip change request and your Host hasn’t responded to it, try sending them a message reminding them to review your request.

If your Host declines your request or doesn’t respond

If the Host declines your request, or doesn’t respond, your reservation will stay the same.

If your trip has already ended

You can’t make changes if your checkout has already passed. But you can always book a new stay with the Host.

If your reservation is a hotel stay

For some hotel stays, you may need to contact the hotel directly to change your reservation.

If you need to make additional changes to your trip

Once you’ve submitted a trip change request, any later changes must go through the process again as a new request.

If your Host hasn’t responded to the request and you no longer want to make changes, you can always withdraw your trip change request.

Monthly stays

If a reservation is for 28 nights or more, the monthly stays cancellation policy applies. When a trip change request is submitted for a monthly stay, the change may happen automatically without requiring approval if:

  • It’s before the trip and the reservation is still 28 nights or longer
  • The trip has started, but it’s 30 nights or more until the checkout date

If a monthly stay is shortened to a length of 27 nights or less (shorter stay), you’ll be responsible for the following 30 days of payment from the day of the alteration, or until the end of the reservation if less than 30 days remain.

Once a reservation is altered from a monthly stay to 27 nights or less (shorter stay), the Host’s standard cancellation policy will apply to future alterations or cancellations made to the updated reservation.
