The most outstanding south indian cuisine and quite famous - people come from all over London to experience Ganapati. And it's literally just across the road! You need to book in advance as it usually impossible to get a table on a walk in basis.

If you can't get a table at Ganapati restaurant, or just feel like having a night in, you can either have your order delivered, or it's just a 5 minute walk to collect further down the road.

Outstanding thai tapas. They don't take bookings though, you need to go there direct, if they don't have a table at the time you arrive, you'll be added to their wait list and they'll call you when your table is ready. You can always fill your time by going to one of the gastropubs nearby (I recommend the Montpelier), or go back to the flat - it's only 5 minutes walk between the two spots

Lovely little cafe just down the road. They do great breakfasts, lunches, cakes and coffee. And have divine bread from the Blackbird Bakery. Don;t settle for a table int he front, try to get one outside in the courtyard - you have to walk right through to the back to get there. (And yes, it's covered - to account for the colder rainier days London is known for)

It describes itself as pan-Balkan mezze and grill and was named one of Fay Maschler's best restaurants of 2013. The menu's constantly changing, but expect dishes such as grilled octopus or creamy Jerusalem artichoke with hazlenut butter. Food is absolutely oustanding. It's a little further out, about 15 minutes walk and a little off the beaten track, but most most definitely worth the effort. They do take bookings too. http://peckhambazaar.com/

Definitely more of a pub than a bar, and a quintessentially english one. Independently owned and run. They do AMAZING pizzas. A rowdy live music scene on Friday nights and possibly Saturday nights too I think.
