Take a trip on the coastal railway and you will not regret it. The train runs from Whitehaven to Ravenglass and her you can take the miniaturetrain on the 'Ratty' into the Lakes and back. It's an amazing day out with some great eating places on the way and on your return into Ravenglass.

Hartleys Cafe has a huge and immensely satisfying all day breakfast for a very reasonable price. Reward yourself after a bracing walk along the beach or stroll up St Bees head. Keep an eye open for dolphins and porpoises and watch out for the tip of the submerged wreck peeping out of the waves at low tide.

Neighbourhoods
The local marketplace, just a few yards away, has lots of cafes and eateries for travellers and residents alike. I particularly like Cafe West where enormous portions of home made cakes are available fresh every day. Oh and there's a lot of Georgian architecture too :)

Getting around
Avoid the trains at night time!
Local people use the trains to travel to their favourite pubs up and down the coast. They tend to get a bit rowdy when drunk and can be quite uncomfortable places to be.
