Why locals recommend it
Tucked away on a back street behind Waterloo Station, the Windmill Tavern is a really lively place to watch the football. It’s on the Cut, which is a kind of cultural oasis in the area around it. The pub has front and back rooms which both show games. It also serves good Thai food which is not too expensive. It’s really close to the Old Vic and Young Vic theatres and you get quite a lot of people coming in for pre- or post-show drinks. This gives the Windmill quite a mixed crowd, with culture vultures as well as sports fans.

Tips from locals
The only pub on the common. Good for a quick drink and the restaurant is lovely for food. The bar part of the pub can get very rowdy on weekends and bank holidays but nice for a spot of food and drink.
This tiny "low down cool fu©k"* venue does not look like much from the outside. And even less from the inside. But it has a fantastic music policy and often punches well above its weight - The Fat Whites played only last month (Feb 2016). It is seemingly impossible to predict whether it will be half empty or packed to bursting. * as described in Time Out!
