a 32,000 square meter park beneath the Coronado Bridge - the US' largest collection of outdoor murals and sculptures/architectural piece.
This is an absolute MUST SEE for visitors to San Diego who want to get beyond the "touristy" sights. This park under a freeway overpass in a largely hispanic (chicano) part of town is a part of our national civil rights movement, and has political, cultural and protest murals dating back to the 1970's from the days of Cesar Chavez. Si se puede! Don't miss this amazing part of our culture, and it's a fantastic area to look for REAL Mexican food.

Chicano Park is a cultural treasure not only for the story of how it came to be but also because of the quality of its art, which has been decades in the making. Roughly 80 artworks fill seven acres of parkland, reaching high into the sky on the concrete pylons supporting the Coronado Bay Bridge.
Chicano Park is located under the Coronado Bridge and features the country's largest collection of outdoor murals. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark last year because of richness of the public art and because of the role it played in the civil rights movement. For some of the best tacos anywhere combine your visit to Chicano Park with a stop at La Fachada (20 25th Street).
