Why locals recommend it
The Karura Forest is a gem in the heart of Nairobi. It’s filled with a mixture of exotic and indigenous trees, and lots of trails for biking and walking. They’ve just released colobus monkeys here, so it’s a fantastic place to spot them, as well as see different species of birds including a crowned eagle. There’s a great restaurant called River Cafe. Look high up in the trees to spot the colobus monkeys. They’re black and white with long hair, and they make a gurgling call in the mornings to communicate with one another. At the entrance you can ask a guide to come with you, and they’ll point out different creatures and plant species on a walk.
