Why locals recommend it
Running Angel Island’s five-mile perimeter road gets you expansive, 360-degree views of the San Francisco Bay and its shoreline. Beforehand, start off with an invigorating swim in the protected waters of Ayala Cove, where the ferry docks. If you’re up for it, climb Mount Livermore—without question the best vantage point for views of the bay. You’ll need to catch a ferry to get to Angel Island. While most tourists can be found near Ayala Cove and along the island’s perimeter road, there are also some real adventures to be found on the miles of trails that branch off the road.

Tips from locals
Possibly the most overlooked gem in the entire Bay Area. Take a short ferry from Tiburon to this huge, quiet, island with nothing but parks. The hike around the Island has probably the best 360 degree views of the Bay. No cars. No traffic. Just a parks with picnic areas and several historic sights. HIDDEN GEM - only a few locals know about it!
gorgeous trip out on the ferry and back, bring a bike and ride around the island, bring a picnic too or buy food there
