Tips from locals
A great park on the Ohio River with a easily accessible cave that looks out on to the river itself. Also has some amazing views across the Ohio River in to Kentucky.
Approach this park crossing the FREE ferry from Kentucky to Illinois. The large cave was once the hideout for notorious bandits who preyed on river traffic on the Ohio River.
Legendary home of the river pirates that once terrorized unsuspecting travelers.
There were real pirates that inhabited the cave back in the day. The writings on the ceiling are done by boat when the river is high enough. Don’t forget to go to Elizabeth town river restaurant while you are in the area. The main thing to see here is the view of the river from on top of the bluff but the cave is by the river and is inaccessible when the river floods so you might check during the spring to make sure it’s accessible.
