Large cathedral built in the 50s, next to the Plaza de La Paz, a beautiful park recently restored.
1970s cathedral with colorful stained-glass windows, Masonic elements and a unique Christ statue that looks like Poseidon.
Once you get inside, you will feel small. The stain glass windows were beautiful. Unique roof structure.
Strolling the streets of El Prado, the most enjoyable neighbourhood of Barranquilla, we came across the imposing building. We found it was Catedral Metropolitana María Reina. Its construction started in 1955 and was officially completed in 1982. Behind the cathedral lies Plaza de la Paz where there are always some activities and many people. This modern structure is not very attractive from the outside but the interior has some pleasant surprises, including some beautiful stained-glass window designs and two wall mosaics using coloured German glass.
