Tips from locals
There’s a swimming hole down the hill at the river that locals use. The mouth of the Brule a dozen miles north has nice sandy beaches though the big lake is often cold unless there’s a north wind blowing surface water in. A few miles further north of the mouth of the Brule turn-off is Bracket’s Corner. Down that road to the left a couple of miles is what the area Finns call “Bearass Beach” where they go skinny dipping. There’s also an old farmstead at the end of Bracket’s Road where there is a gravesite of the family. Hiking I recommend Lost Creek Falls in Cornucopia plus the Sea Caves hike in the Apostle Island park about five miles east of Corny toward Bayfield. There’s also the North Country Trail south of Brule three miles.
