Tips from locals
You can take the train from Bere Alston to Calstock to enjoy the sight of the viaduct and a riverside setting. Also possible to drive and park by the river. There is a great ice cream shop a short stroll from the station as well as a pub and children's playground. It is possible to walk a reasonable distance from here to Cotehele
Stunning village nestled in the Tamar Valley. Lovely walks through to the National Trust Cotehele estate. Lovely arts Gallery and cafe in the vacillate with a couple of local pubs for a bite to eat on an evening. Food at the Tamar Inn is fairly bog standard pub food, but I would totally recommend their fish and chips!
The village of Calstock has a friendly pub & ice cream shop. The river walk along to Cotehele is particularly lovely. The Calstock ferry runs river trips in summer. Google 'calstock water sports centre" to hire canoes or paddle boards.
Just 2 stops on the Tamar Valley line your train will cross this wonderful viaduct to the village of Calstock. You can then walk to the historic Cothele along the wandering Tamar River. Back at one of the 2 village pubs you can enjoy some food and drink . There is also a wonderful local art gallery called The Lime Kiln.
