Tips from locals
A great beach for walking, swimming, kayaking around the caves and along the coast. Ballybunion has a few boutiques and plenty of restaurants. For those who'd rather a picnic there's a Supervalue in the middle of the town. During the Summer there are usually amusements in the town overlooking the sea.
Go to the nun's beach, right hand side of castle. Toilets, ice-cream shop, life guards and more shade from cliffs.
The ruins of Ballybunion Castle stand proudly on the cliff top overlooking the sandy beaches and bear testament to the workers who built it and to the Bunyan family who gave the village its proud name. The ruins belie a rich history going back centuries.
