Tips from locals
Trieste is located at the head of the Gulf of Trieste, on a narrow strip of Italian territory lying between the Adriatic Sea and Slovenia. It is approximately 30 km away from Monfalcone and it can be easily reached by train or by car, although we recommend going to Trieste by train as finding a parking slot in the city might be quite stressful. In Trieste, you can either stroll around the beautiful city center and stop by the nice cafes or have a walk around Barcola, which is the maritime neighborhood of Trieste and have a refreshing bath or enjoy the nice cafes (we do recommend Pane Quotidiano) with a beautiful view over the Adriatic Sea.

In Trieste, you can enjoy the historic cafés and savour the view of grand buildings and the 200 metre pier, which bravely defy the bora winds and which you can admire from the main square that is the largest city square in Europe opening towards the water. With its many shops, Trieste is still a very popular spot for shopping. After sightseeing in the city centre, we recommend you to visit the Miramare Castle, its museum and gorgeous park. You can also visit the especially beautiful Muggia, a small town near Trieste, which has a 14th century castle built on a hill by the old port, and an old town, which is located even higher and includes an archaeological park and the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta.
