Tips from locals
The Gore Bay Museum always has an exhibition of local artists work in the modern room but there is also the old part of the museum which is a gem to see. Be sure to check out the old Gore Bay jail cells and look for the old table where the prisoners would sit and play cards, it is a treasure to see the dates carved into it.
Museum building is part of the Gore Bay court complex and served as the Manitoulin District Jail and jailer’s residence until 1945. It is one of the few remaining Ontario jails which has retained many of its original features. It has now been converted into a museum that displays the history of local early settlers.
The Gore Bay Museum is a great place to while away a few hours with their exhibits of antiques, plus revolving shows from local artists.
