Cahawba is the first capitol of Alabama. There is an active archeological dig taking place on the property. Self-guided tour are available.

The Old Cahawba Archaeological Park is an attempt to uncover much of what nature has covered so that visitors can get a glimpse of the area’s historic past. The interpretive park has been worked on by archaeologists and historians over the years to create a true-to-life exhibit of what it was once like to live there.
