Tips from locals
Bounded by the Grand Canal and the Giudecca, it is mostly a quiet sestiere and an incredibly charming one. It is considered one of the most prestigious areas and is quite residential in character, although the presence of the Gallerie dell’Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection turn it into a tourist destination. TO SEE: Gallerie dell'Accademia, Punta delle Dogan (Pinault's collection), Basilica Santa Maria della Salute, Carmini church and Scuola dei Carmini, San Nicolò dei Mendicoli church, Ca' Rezzonico (museum of Venetian Eighteen Century), San Sebastiano church, Squero di San Trovaso.

Dorsoduro is one of the most beautiful and characteristic “sestieri” of Venice: it is lucky enough to be outside the mass tourist circuits, but it contains many beauties, including Campo Santa Margherita, Accademia, Le Zattere and Punta della Dogana. In Dorsoduro there are many bars, restaurants and places to have breakfast. In addition, you will find many supermarkets and shops of all kinds.

This is the neighbourhood you are staying in so enjoy the sunny Zattere on one of the many cafés, go to “Cantine Schiavi” for ci chetti and drinks and they have a huge choice of wines to take home. There are 2 Conad Supermarkets on the Zattere 2. For a more boutique food shopping go to Santa Margherita where you will find egetable, fresh fish and a small but good butcher and a supermarket.

Dorsoduro is one of my favorite neighborhoods, as well as the one where I was born and raised. Despite being central, you can breathe a completely different atmosphere compared to areas now almost always full like Rialto and San Marco. Here, you can still find corners of paradise hidden by the crowds, here there are still beautiful and original small particular shops, of unique objects, here you sleep in silence and have dinner in small trattorias managed by locals, goodies of the city!
