Family favourite of ours, spend the day exploring the woods or splashing in the river.
The reason I love living here, Plymbridge woods is on the doorstep, accessible from the country lane. Ramble, cycle and explore. For birdwatching enthusiasts’ Peregrine falcons breed on an old quarry face within the woodland. Kingfishers and Dippers can be seen along the river, and lesser spotted woodpecker and tree pipit are found within the woods. The neighbouring deer often visit too.

Plymbridge Woods: (13miles) Walk with the dog or cycle along the old railway line that follows the river Plym. A wonderful easy cycle up to the Skylark Inn in Clearbrook on Dartmoor. Check out the nationaltrust.org.uk/plymbridge-woods for details, for bike hire search for plymouthbikehire.co.uk
I thought I’d insert the National Trust blurb on this place and I’d suggest checking out their website for more info regarding best starting points for cycling . ‘A wooded valley opening up to the moors of Dartmoor with a rich and varied industrious past The Plym Valley consists of varied habitats from riverside meadows, ancient woodland and the wilderness of Dartmoor. Car parks at Plymbridge, Cadover Bridge and Shaugh Prior provide good starting points to explore the area on foot or bike.’ If you were to go to Yelverton there are several little shops/cafes to stop at for refreshments and a park for the children.
