Everyone visits the Hermitage but the Russian Museum is not to be missed if you want to see the stunning collection of Russian and Soviet art.
There is a great collection of the Russian art in the Russian museum. The building itself is a beautiful Mikhailovskiy palace, built by K.I.Rossi. The atmosphere of the museum is very friendly, one can sit on the soft benches and enjoy the most eminent Russian masterpieces of all époques.
The Russian Museum is the largest collection of Russian art in the world. Here you can see works by Andrei Rublev, Ilya Repin (including the famous paintings “Barge Haulers on the Volga” and “Zaporozhtsy write a letter to the Turkish Sultan”), Karl Bryullov (including “Last Day of Pompeii” and “Italian Midday”), as well as a whole hall paintings of Ivan Aivazovsky ("The Ninth Wave", etc.) and many more. On Tuesdays, the museum has a day off.
