Tips from locals
Quite exceptional dining. Utterly unpretentious, with all attention on a thoughtfully assembled menu of stunning flavours.
DIVINE DINING Everyone is talking about St John's Place. Former Vinoteca chef de partie Julia Robson has shoehorned her tiny restaurant (seats 25) into a church hall. Short, memorable menus might include beef carpaccio, runner beans, anchovy and Berkswell cheese; sea trout, sugar snaps, celeriac, sorrel and horseradish; cherry, lavender and grappa trifle with pistachios. Open Thursday to Saturday nights. Schedule your trip around it (I'm serious) and book in advance. +44 7855 783799; stjohnsplacehay.tumblr.com. About £55 for two
