Giraffe Centre

Why locals recommend it
An education centre where children and adults can learn about the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. It’s home to a number of rescued Rothschild’s, who live on the grounds and who you can feed by stepping up onto a high platform. It’s hours of fun for kids. It’s great to have this interaction and learn about their personalities—they’re very aloof! The Giraffe Centre is about a 10-minute drive away from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, so you can combine the two in one morning. I’d recommend going to see the giraffes before the elephants, as the Giraffe Centre can get busy in the afternoons.

Tips from locals
The Giraffe Centre is located in Lang'ata, approximately 20 kilometres from the centre of Nairobi, Kenya. It was established in order to protect the vulnerable giraffe, that is found only in the grasslands of East Africa.
Just next door to us in Langata, you find the giraffe sanctuary, that gives guests an opportunity to get up close and personal with Rothschild giraffes. The objective of the centre is to provide free environmental education to the Kenyan youth and provide conservation of the endangered species.
This Giraffe sanctuary created by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife is a non-profit originally formed as a place to safe keep the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Since then it has gained fame for educating the youth about Kenya’s wildlife and environment. This is a family friendly activity which allows one to get up close and personal with our tall friends.
