Tips from locals
Start as the sun rises to beat the day's heat. Take water and something warm to wear as it can get cold along the way. Depending on how fit you are (this is a steep path where you climb stone stairs all the way to the top) you can get to the top in 60 minutes or 3 hours. You can take the Cable Car down!
Probably the second most well-known hiking trail in Cape Town (after Lion’s Head), Platteklip is not so easygoing, despite its popularity. Sure, there’s not much climbing or scrambling involved, but there’s a lot of upward walking, which probably makes it the ideal route for a workout. It provides a direct route to the summit of Table Mountain, for those who think taking the cable way is too easy. If you plan to take the cable car down, make note of operational times and ensure you reach the station before the last cable car leaves.

The most popular route to climb Table Mountain. Start this early in Summer to avoid the heat. Keep an eye on the weather.
