Tips from locals
The southern side of Columbia along with the trails that run along the Missouri River offer some of the most amazing Karst Topography/cave systems. The caves are the home to the endangered brown bat colonies that fly between the Rock Bridge Park caves often referred to as devils icebox and the caves near Boonville along the Missouri River. There are fantastic walking trails for several levels of hikers. During good weather there are guided tours through some of the Crevasses and caves

There are numerous trails that wonder through Rock Bridge State Park, but the best and most popular is the Devil's Icebox Trail. This trail will take you down into a sink hole and cave. It's constantly cool down there, so this is a great place to go during the summer. If it's hot out, or if you want to see another great geological feature, visit the park's name sake rock bridge. A stream flows through under the rock bridge, so this is another great place to keep cool. The rock bridge and Devil's Icebox are both accessible from the same parking lot in Rock Bridge State Park.
