The tube’s last remaining wooden escalator was at Greenford station in zone four, until it was replaced in 2016 by a unique incline lift—or inclinator—a lift that follows the incline of the former escalator rather than going straight up and down. It’s the only one of its kind at a railway station in the UK. The inclinator is weird compared to most lifts in that it doesn’t have a button for up and another for down. It just has one button: go. It couldn’t be simpler. Clearly it’s meant for people who have step-free needs, but I’ve seen people take it just for fun.
