Another one for the cathedral lovers! More interesting than Christchurch Cathedral in my opinion.
The Cathedral stands majestically as a memorial to our historic past. But it stands for much more. A historic cathedral such as this lifts us out of the realm of things and circumstances which change into the realm of things which are eternal and do not change. It gives us a sense of perspective both in space and time and it brings us face-to-face with our faith in God through Christ, who alone can give our lives true meaning and lasting satisfaction. This stunning gothic cathedral has been a Dublin landmark for nearly a thousand years. As well as being the home church of Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels, who was the Dean here from 1713 - 1745, it's also the final resting place of Strongbow (1130-1176), known for his leading role in the Norman invasion of Ireland. A statue of Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness, grandson of the Guinness Brewery founder Arthur Guinness, stands outside -- he financed a major renovation of the cathedral in the mid-1860s. Entrance is €7 for adults, €6 for students and seniors.
