Joséphine passed away from pneumonia in 1814 and her funeral took place on 2 June that year. The celebrated architect, Louis-Martin Berthault and sculptor Pierre Cartellier collaborated on her tomb. You can also see the stunning mausoleum of her daughter Hortense, who was the mother of Napoleon III who ruled France in the Second Empire and commissioned this monument.
