Why locals recommend it
The Independent is easily one of the best mid-size venues in the Bay Area, with a great diversity of artists and genres. There’s always something good to see. I once witnessed singer Mac DeMarco do an insane trust fall from the second floor onto a crowd eager to catch him, and then resume crushing the audience with his performance from the stage. Headlining the Indy is a right of passage for local artists to know they’re moving up in the world. The bar can get crowded, so tip a couple bucks on every drink if you want to catch that bartender’s eye faster for the next round.

Tips from locals
Great local music venue to see future big names in a small venue. Nirvana played there in the 90's. Metallica just did a surprise show here for $20 per head.
Intimate, no-frills music venue with a full bar that features indie & emerging acts.
