Great tours of a turn-of-the century mansion. Fully restored, beautiful piece of Montana History.
Not far from the Holter Museum of Art and the Parrot Confectionary Candy store is the elegant and refined Original Governor's Mansion. This is a popular tourist attraction.
This is a beautiful old house with lots of history. You will however, have to plan ahead to get in for a tour. Summer hours Tuesday - Saturday: 12, 1, 2, 3. Closed holidays Winter hours are Saturdays 12, 1, 2, 3 Closed holidays The red brick building was erected in 1888 by Helena entrepreneur William Chessman, who wanted to show off his power and wealth. Decades later, it was acquired by the State of Montana and used to house its governors from 1913 to 1959. Now they just give tours.
