HIGHLY RECOMMEND: The smallest penguins in the world are the 'little' orthe 'fairy' penguins which are found in the south west corner of WA and south coast of Australia. Penguin Island is open from mid-September to early June. It closes during winter for the breeding season. The Discovery Centre cares for about a dozen injured penguins. Penguin feedings occur at 10.30am, 12,30pm and 2.30pm. They are just beautiful. As well many penguins nest on the island. There are no shops and there is no accommodation on the island. You must take everything that you would require for a picnic including rugs, water and food. There are numerous beaches but the best ones are on the western side facing the ocean. Many boardwalks traverse the island and you can explore at will. Enjoy the beach and sunshine but don't forget the sunscreen.
