Built in 1913-15, the Scheepvaarthuis is often regarded as the first building designed in the style of the Amsterdam School. This Art Deco-ish style drew on the examples from Art Nouveau and the Glasgow architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The hotel that currently occupies this former joint office of multiple shipping firms has restored the building's grand style. Don't hesitate to go inside.
