Bendigo's connection to the chinese community dates back to its Gold Rush era of the 1850s. The Golden Dragon Museum is home to Loong, Sun Loong and Dai Gum Loong - historic processional dragons made from colourful silk and mirrors - as well as imperial robes, other textiles, photographs, beautifully decorated documents and other social history collections. The museum is of national significance.

The Golden Dragon Museum is a living history of the Chinese people of Bendigo and now as the hub of Chinese cultural activity in Australia the museum allows visitors to experience first-hand Chinese arts, history and culture. As well as the museum and its wonderful dragons, processional regalia, stunning textiles and other treasures you can also visit the Yi Yuan Gardens (Garden of Joy). Based on the Imperial Palace in Beijing, the architecture and construction of the gardens is authentic in every way. Visitors should also be certain to visit the Buddhist Temple dedicated to Guan Yin the Goddess of Mercy and look through the Gift Shop for a lasting memento of your visit.
