Porta Pia is a gate in the Aurelian Walls of Rome, Italy. One of Pope Pius IV's civic improvements to the city, it is named after him, it was designed by Michelangelo.
The 20th September 1870 the "Bersaglieri" (a division of the Italian army) breakthrough in Rome (then under the power of the pope) from a breach near "Porta Pia".
