If you fancy a trip to the coast then Ile de Re is about 1.5 hours drive, also close by is Ile de Oleron and La Rochelle. There are some lovely restaurants and walks.
Hire a bike and ride around the scenic island. Good restaurants, cafes, bars and boutique shopping.
Over the bridge from La Rochelle and you arrive on a windswept island with pretty villages - streets lined with hollyhocks, quaint harbours, daily food market at La Flotte and great harbour side restaurants at St Martin. Climb the steps to the top of the church tower in St Martins and get a great panoramic view of the island! Don't forget to see the donkeys in pyjamas!
