This museum on the Royal Mile gives a rare insight into 17th Century life in the Old Town just before the town burst its old walls and development of the New Town began. It ties in perfectly with a visit to the Georgian House in Charlotte Square; the two attractions compliment each other so if at all possible do try to see both.
Entering Gladstone's Land today is like entering a time machine that transports you back to an age before the development of the New Town, to a time when rich and poor lived cheek-by-jowl in a seriously overcrowded city.

There is a shop on the ground floor where you can buy real Scottish souvenirs, tasteful and good quality stuff actually made in Scotland.
