Tips from locals
Newark Castle has weathered many historic storms. It stands now, partially destroyed, as a reminder of Newark's turbulent history. Today, visitors can take tours, visit exhibitions or walk through the Victorian gardens.
Originating in the 12 / 13th century, the castle was dismantled after the Civil War and restored in the 1800’s.
Newark Castle and Gardens are lovely, formal gardens bordered by the remaining walls of Newark Castle which was partly destroyed in 1646 at the end of the English Civil War. The Castle has stood proudly on the banks of the River Trent for nearly 900 years.
