This is a working museum and you get to go down into a mine. It is about 1 hr drive from the cottage but very worthwhile.
Just brilliant! The museum, the underground tour (which needs pre-booking), and the shop and cafe. There’s also some outside play space and special events in school holidays. It’s free apart from a donation for the tour. The underground tours are led by exceptionally knowledgeable locals - some ex miners, and families of miners. Can answer lots of your questions about our local mining heritage.
