Tips from locals
Adorable dining car fully restored with retro details. Less than 1/2 mile from home, Dan's is the place for breakfast and lunch. Inexpensive, simple cooking with friendly staff and lots of historic touches. Sit at the counter and enjoy!
Breakfast or lunch for diner-style food. The owner (Dan) built it by hand from an old rail car and cooks there, too. Food is good, staff is nice. It’s like something out of a movie. It’s also in Spencertown, which is a darling little hamlet with Greek Revival architecture and was the home of artist Ellsworth Kelly for almost fifty years. He also endowed most of the parks, libraries in the area.

Dan’s is the best! We love going there for breakfast. It’s affordable, delicious, and open 6-2. Eating in a real, restored train car is a huge hit with kids and adults alike!
