Tips from locals
Hidden away in Abbotsbury is a subtropical garden and if out visiting along the road to Bridport and Lyme Regis I definitely recommend a stop here.
Magnificent Victorian walled garden set in 20 acres of woodland valley. The unique micro- climate enables rare and exotic species from all over the world to thrive here.
My personal favourite any time of year. The gardens date back to 1750 and are beautifully kept. There is also a plantation style villa/ cafe , food is made on site, cream teas and cakes too. You can visit the cafe without entering the gardens. Just a short walk further is Chesil beach, an amazing natural phenomenon.
Follow the Wonderland Sculpture Trail. Nature trails, sunken gardens, colonial style teahouse, children's adventure play area and illuminated night time walks. Also visit Abbotsbury's Swannery nearby with its colony of nesting mute swans.
