Ahoy, mates! You'd best get your sea legs under you for an outing -- a true adventure at sea with salty air, rolling swells and some of the most magnificent creatures in existence. While certain types of whales tend to move through the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary only at certain times of the year (humpbacks usually from April-November and gray whales from December-April, according to the Santa Cruz Whale Watching website), this at-least-once-in-a-lifetime experience is worth planning ahead. Whale watching on the Monterey Bay is one of the best spots around. Last year when we went we saw the elusive Blue whales. Tons of fun.

When the anchovies come to the bay, whales will be there. Amazing sight. Many times you can see them from shore.
