Sylvan Lake has two beautiful hikes both are medium difficulty but definitely worth the effort. Black Elk Peak trail takes to the top of the mountain with outstanding views as far as the eye can see. Sunday Gulch trail starts behind the rock formation at the end of the lake. It has beautiful waterfalls and steep terrain with hand rails. It's a long hike but gorgeous.

Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park is a beautiful place to explore, swim, paddle board, hike, and relax. Colors in the fall are spectacular. Dogs welcome. Easy to moderate 1 mile hike around the lake includes rock tunnels, bridges, bouldering, and views. Sunday Gultch is a more difficult hike that branches off about half way around the lake.
This is the most beautiful lake of all the bodies of water in the Black Hills. Hike all the way around it. Enjoy the sparkling mica in the stone formations. Kayaking is allowed.
This is a favorite with lots of people for a reason. It is breathtaking. We love hiking Sunday Gulch. The short hike around the lake is also beautiful and doable for all levels of hikers (even for the littlest of legs.)
