Tips from locals
The landscape is beautifully rugged and the swimming area is clean and safe. Although I recommend arriving early as there is a cap on admittance.
The centre of attention is the 0.8 ha (two acre) limestone quarry encircled by sheer cliffs up to 12 metres (40 feet) high. The tree-covered conservation area has places to picnic and enjoying nature. There were over 30 films taped in this area. The most famous "It" from Stephen King.
This watering hole was once a limestone quarry and is our favorite place to spend a hot summer afternoon. The water is turquoise in color, cold and fresh and you can set up your blanket on the sandy beach area. Bring a picnic lunch and your own beverages as you can't buy them on site. Tip: The GRCA has imposed a 1,300 person daily limit to lessen the environmental impact of the area. Our advice is to go as soon as the Quarry opens and purchase your ticket-it gets very busy in summer and the park closes to new comers when they reach capacity. Tickets are $10. per person.
