Tips from locals
They have a short film about the history of the Great Chicago Fire that decimated most of the city and its rebuilding.
Amazing museum that explains all things "Chicago". A fav and right by the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Chicago has a fascinating and unique history. The exhibits are well-curated so plan to spend at least two hours here. You can begin by watching the short film in the theater on the first floor. Usually, museum films are mediocre at best, but this one featured the adventures of Roger and his babysitter, Jean, as they explored Chicago through various eras (Jean "hearts" history). It's fun, engaging, and informative. The second floor is dedicated to the history of Chicago and also has a grand section on Abraham Lincoln. There are also other informative exhibits on issues that have impacted American history - slavery, terrorism, immigration, etc. Not a bad place to spend an afternoon!
