Looking for things to do Kuranda? The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is the largest butterfly flight aviary and exhibit in the Southern Hemisphere. Located in the heart of Kuranda, only a short walk from Skyrail and the Kuranda Scenic Railway station, our sanctuary is home to over 2000 butterflies from a variety of species.
This is the largest butterfly free-flight aviary in the Southern Hemisphere; it is home to more than 2000 butterflies. The butterflies are bred in the sanctuary's laboratory and include a wide range of Australian species like the local rainforest butterflies including electric blue Ulysses yellow and majestic green Cairns Bird wing and the Monarch butterfly.
