Tips from locals
The gardens are part of the Domain parklands which stretch to the Royal Botanic Gardens and were first laid out in 1901, under the direction of Carlo Catani, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department. They are listed on the Victorian Heritage Register due to their historical and archaeological significance.
Beautiful park, ideal for family outings or if you just want some peace and quiet. Easy to reach with the 75 tram.
On a sunny afternoon, these gardens are perfect to walk around and lie in the sun. You can also walk all the way along the Yarra River in front of the boat sheds, which is really pretty and a great view of Melbourne.
