SCAI The Bathhouse

Why locals recommend it

What I really like about this gallery is the contrast: it’s a renovated 200-year-old public bathhouse with the original exterior intact, but inside is a minimalist white space—the Showa era and the present age combined. Exhibitions here feature international- and national-level contemporary art. Stop in at Kabaya, a coffee shop in a refurbished Taisho-era townhouse near the gallery. Like SCAI, it has a real feel and flavor of Tokyo’s old downtown.
