Domme is a bastide (fortified town) situated on a cliff over the Dordogne River. It is an easy but uphill walk from Cenac (10-15 minutes) but is well worth the effort. Domme was thought impenetrable but was captured by troops of the notorious Simon Montfort, who scaled the cliffs and entered via an underground passage in the middle of the night. The Castle was ultimately destroyed but its walls remain and were recently excavated from vegetation that had grown over them, as were the walls of this entire lovely bastide. Thursday is Market day, which can get quite crowded in summer.

Another wonderful bastide town with the most amazing views over the Dordogne river.
Domme is 250 metres (820 ft) above sea level on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Dordogne river. Listed among the "most beautiful villages in France" it is worth seeing for the view and the ice cream.
Beautiful little town, must see. Great lookout point where you can enjoy tasty ice cream or have a drink or bite to eat. At the Main Street is my favourite dress shop. So enjoy ladies! ;)
