Famous surfrider beach by the Malibu Pier, hang at the beach and watch or join the surfers all day and birdwatch rarities in the lagoon
The premier surfing destination in California! Many attractions nearby and some that are part of the state park!
This is one of my favorite places. It's a sanctuary for wild life. Beware, do not bring food onto this beach or be prepared to be dive bombed by seagulls. It is a pristine experience. Be careful with parking, they ticket if you exceed your limit.
Malibu Lagoon State Beach is located on the point formed where Malibu Creek ends at the ocean. Here the creek pools up to form Malibu Lagoon and in the winter the beach berm breaches to allow tidal flows which separate the lagoon beach from Surfrider Beach. The beach at the lagoon has a parking lot at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Cross Creek Road. From this parking lot dirt trails wrap around the wetlands for a nice walk with bird-watching opportunities. Many informative interpretive signs and art structures can be found along this winding path which ends at the sandy beach in front of the lagoon. The Surfrider Beach area of the state beach starts at the lagoon and continues to the Malibu Pier. Surfrider has a separate parking lot at 23200 PCH. Next to this parking lot you’ll find the Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum which is also part of the state park.
