17.2 m (if you go the scenic route, which you should definitely do!) I have always loved this place. I actually go here quite a bit. It's a tiny museum, but they've done such a great job with it. There are also well-maintained nature trails around the building. (Just please use caution in the summer, because there are rattlesnakes in the mountains.) If you go, I strongly suggest you travel to and from there through the Franklin Mountains, as opposed to going around them.

Then keep traveling through the mountains on Woodrow Bean Transmountain (Not I-10 route) to go the Outlets of New Mexico or to Ripe restaurant on the Westside of El Paso for lunch.. 15 min away to the Museum. Call for hours. Outlet or Ripe is 30 minutes away.
